Early this morning, many families experienced the tragic loss of (a) loved one(s) and many others were traumatized by the shooting in Aurora, Colorado at the midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises. My heartfelt prayers go out to all those impacted by this tragedy, especially the families of those who lost loved ones. I had plans on watching The Dark Knight Rises this afternoon, but out of respect for those impacted, I will postpone watching it.
Like 50 million other Americans, I utilize Craigslist to post classified ads.
Today, while posting a couple of ads, I took note of the following:
Clicking “Continue” confirms that craigslist is the exclusive licensee of this content, with the exclusive right to enforce copyrights against anyone copying, republishing, distributing or preparing derivative works without its consent.
As a seasoned amateur photographer, I became alarmed with this statement as it appears to be a compulsory licensing right.
Why the concern you may ask? From time to time I will post ads in search of models for photo shoots. In these ads, I also may post samples of my portfolio. With the above statement, it could potentially grant Craigslist exclusive licensing rights to my photographs. In simple terms, if I post samples of my work in a Craigslist ad, it could potentially grant them the sole right to say when, where, and how my images are displayed.
I have sent an e-mail to Craigslist, requesting clarification of the above statement. I will post their reply as soon as I receive one.
Any thoughts? Please let me know.
The mind is a peculiar thing especially when one has a proclivity towards ‘worse case’ scenarios. I tend to be one of those individuals and it has been both a blessing and a curse. There have been several instances when I have played out the worse case scenario(s) in my head; thus, preparing me for the possibility of something going awry. On the other side of the coin, I have played those scenario(s) out in my mind stressing myself out and only to have a favorable outcome.
Last night was such an instance (I won’t bore you with the details). My van overheated last night because it had run out of water. In my mind I began playing out, “It could be the thermostat… it could be the water pump… or (crud!), it could be a blown head.” So, I fill the radiator with water (no I didn’t have anti-freeze/coolant at the time) and let it sit over night.
Today, I reluctantly take the van for a test drive and to run a few errands. For the most part it maintained a steady temperature; but, I did notice it was slowly leaking water.
I did make it to the auto parts store and purchased some anti-freeze/coolant. After I put some anti-freeze in, I began inspecting the engine area to see if I could find the issue, if there in fact was one. Getting straight to the point, I have a radiator hose with a split in it (Phew!).
The lesson learned? I’m not sure there was an actual lesson; except, maybe I should try to obtain as much information as possible, before I start playing these scenarios out in my head? Or, there are people out there who have far more challenging situations than mine?
As you probably gathered from the first post, I have commitment issues (contorted facial expression). So instead of trying to commit to 365 or the such, I’m going to step outside of my comfort zone and aim for ‘a photo when I can’ (smirk).
With that said, here is my debut, taken with my iPhone and processed with the Photoshop iPhone app.
Welcome to my blog, version 2.0! My last attempt to maintain a blog ended about as quick as it started; a result of perfectionism, lack of direction, and life. So why a 2.0 version and what is different about it? First, I will aim for refinement as oppose to perfection. Second, I will follow a loose format; mainly documenting my photography, but allowing room for my random thoughts, quips, imparting of knowledge, and views. Third, it will be a casual commitment (GASP!) to this blog, permitting for those unforeseen life challenges. With that said; welcome again and see you next post!
